Frank MacKay is a highly accomplished media executive, independent journalist, and political strategist whose diverse career spans four decades across public relations, entertainment, and government. He currently serves as the President of 77 WABC Radio’s Long Island Division (AM 770 and 107.1 FM WLIR), a role he was appointed to by billionaire John Catsimatidis in May 2022 following MacKay's on-the-ground reporting during the conflict in Ukraine.
Media & Journalism Career
MacKay's extensive media portfolio includes hosting a popular, award-winning radio program and conducting over 5,000 interviews with high-profile figures, including seven U.S. Presidents, Speakers of the House, Senate Majority Leaders, international icons, and professional athletes.
In March 2022, MacKay traveled to Ukraine as an independent journalist just one week after the conflict began. He spent 15 days broadcasting live from the front lines and surrounding borders while actively assisting with the humanitarian refugee crisis. Beyond radio and broadcast journalism, MacKay is a documentary filmmaker, music producer, songwriter, and the author of eight published books.
Political Leadership
A historic figure in New York politics, MacKay served as the State Chairman of the Independence Party of New York for 20 years. He first entered politics in 1992 through Ross Perot’s independent presidential campaign, during which he organized large-scale voter registration drives. By age 32, he became the youngest State Chairman of a political party in New York history. He was subsequently re-elected to the chairmanship 12 times, expanding the party’s statewide influence and developing a strong following among young political activists.
Entertainment Ventures & Entrepreneurship
MacKay began his entrepreneurial journey at age 18 by launching Network, a widely read music industry publication. Over the next decade, he established himself as a prominent concert and club promoter. By age 25, he founded and operated three successful nightclubs under the brand Dr. Shay’s and managed top-tier entertainment talent, including magician Criss Angel and musician CJ Ramone.
Education & Philanthropy
MacKay holds a Master’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Five Towns College in 2008 for his contributions to business and politics. He has also contributed to legal education as a former member of the Board of Governors for the Touro Law Center.
An avid naturalist and global explorer, MacKay has traveled to more than 150 countries, six continents, and all 50 U.S. states. He holds a certificate from Cornell University’s Master Naturalist program. He resides on Long Island, New York, with his wife and four children.
